Tuesday night I was given the [pleasure of attending Fox’s promotional tour of their new series “Shots Fired”, created and written by Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood. The preview was held at D.C.’s Newseum, creator/writer and producer, Reggie Rock Bythewood donned the red carpet along with Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Mack Wilds and Richard Dreyfuss. , drinks and hor’dourves were served and the room was filled with amazing, beautiful and talented black men and women from the DMV area.
Special guests were there too! I had the pleasure of meeting political strategist, Angela Rye and singers Dante Jordan and David Chance from the R&B group Ruff Endz. There were several other special guests as well at the event so you could only imagine my excitement to be apart of such a dope evening!
After networking and taking plenty of selfies it was officially time to enjoy the special presentation of the night, only 45 minutes long, #ShotsFired is a 10-part event mystery that examines the dangerous aftermath of two racially charged shootings by law enforcement in a small southern town.
I was literally on the edge of my seat for 45 minutes. I laughed, I cried and my mouth hung wide open in shock. This 10 hour tv event comes at a very tough time where the topic of police brutality is at an all time high, between conversations being held via online and offline and protests around the country proclaiming that Black Lives Matter.
The shows creator/writer, Reggie Rock Bythewood, said that after watching the trial of George Zimmerman in regards to the murder of Trayvon Martin, he and his wife came up with the story line to begin a conversation that would hopefully invoke change in how we interact with police officers, how they interact with the public but most importantly how the justice system handles cases in regards to police brutality.
The show opened up very harsh wounds and as ruff as it will be for me to tune in, I will be watching every week starting March 22nd at 8/7c pm on Fox.
I hope you guys will tune in also with an open mind and an open heart.
Change will and can start with us.
